The Buckinghamshire SEND TEAM Exceptional Support Pathway: Please read the guidance and criteria before applying
The Buckinghamshire ESR Guidance provides schools and settings with a clear framework for accessing additional support where children and young people have exceptional SEND needs. The guidance outlines:
- when an ESR may be appropriate
- the evidence required
- how decisions are made
- the expectations for provision, monitoring and review
ESR is designed to:

promote early intervention, collaboration and consistent decision-making

support settings to secure the right provision, expertise and resources to improve outcomes and maintain successful placements
Applications can be made using the Exceptional Support Request form, requests will be considered at the SEND age-based forums. The forum will consider the most appropriate options for support, and in exceptional circumstances this may also include some funding.
When an Exceptional Support Request Might Be Needed:

When needs cannot be met through Universal Provision or SEND Support
- There is urgent or unexpected escalation of need

Provision must be enhanced quickly to maintain placement
Example circumstances: -
Sudden trauma, accident or deterioration

Newly arrived pupil with significant unmet needs

No prior educational history

Emerging complex presentations

Significant early years needs
