Bookstart

Bookstart is the world’s first national book-gifting programme run by the BookTrust and gives free books for every child aged 0-5 years in England and Wales. The main aim of the programme is to encourage a love of books, stories and rhymes in children from as young an age as possible.

Bookstart Pilot:
Early Years settings are chosen to take part in the new pilot if they meet gifting criteria and are situated in Opportunity Bucks wards. If your setting meets this criteria, you will receive communication from Early Years for your response in May 2026. Gifting will be for the new academic year 26-27 and will be for children who are 2yrs old and those turning 4 in that academic year.
Our 2026-2027 allocation of dual language books are now available for you to order via the order form below - We have limited stock so please only order titles that are relevant for those children currently attending your setting. The books are currently available in 30 different languages, free parental guidance is also available on the Bookstart website, select the link in the title.
Offering Dual language books is a great way to introduce sharing books to parents and carers who may not feel confident in doing so entirely in English. It also gives practitioners the opportunity to signpost where parents will be able to find more DL titles, such as at their local library Local library services - GOV.UK (www.gov.uk)
Before gifting, please ask parents/carers if they have already received a DL book, only gift one DL book per child and ask families to kindly decline another book if they are offered one by different partner.
