The Buckinghamshire Early Years team are delighted to be able to offer families of autistic children (with or without a diagnosis, living in Buckinghamshire or attending a Buckinghamshire setting) the opportunity to learn together with their child’s settings.

Families and a key practitioner can attend our: 

Early Years Autism - One Day: (For parents of children aged 6 and under)

This course runs on a termly basis, two family member and a practitioner from the child’s setting are invited to attend the session from 10 am to 3 pm.

The day focuses on helping families and practitioners to understand ‘Autism and the differences in the way children learn’.

The session aims to: 

  • Give an overview of ‘What is Autism?’ 
  • To look at the ‘Key Areas of Difference’ in the way autistic children learn and how these differences impact on children at home and in schools and settings. 
  • To begin to explore the strategies used to support autistic children, including visual supports, transitions, and the sensory environment.  
  • To explore ways of working together with your child’s school or setting. 
  • To provide opportunities to meet and share experiences with other parents and ask questions specific to your child’s and family’s needs.
