Exceptional Support Request Pathway

Exceptional Support Request Pathway

The Buckinghamshire SEND TEAM Exceptional Support Pathway: Please read the guidance and criteria before applying

Applications can be made using the Exceptional Support Request form, requests will be considered at the SEND age-based forums. The forum will consider the most appropriate options for support, and in exceptional circumstances this may also include some funding.

When an Exceptional Support Request Might Be Needed:

  • New to Buckinghamshire: If a child has moved from another country or area and has significant needs that go beyond the usual support schools can provide, and services need time to fully assess their needs.
  • Early Years or Starting School: Where a young child has special educational needs that are so significant and lasting that they can't access education without extra help.
  • School Age with Ongoing and Significant Difficulties: Where a school-aged child or young person has had significant and lasting difficulties accessing education despite appropriate levels of support.
  • SeriousHealth Changes: Where a child or young person has had a serious accident or a major change in their physical, sensory, or mental health that requires immediate and ongoing special educational support to access the curriculum.
