EYFS Profile
EYFS Profile
The EYFS Profile is explained in detail in the EYFS Statutory framework on pages 19 and 20.
The Early Learning Goals (ELGs) summarise the level of development children should be expected to have attained by the end of the EYFS. “Practitioners working with children below reception age do not need to use the ELGs as, for the vast majority of children, the EYFS Profile will be carried out by their school teacher at the end of the reception year.” p.11. ELGs are for assessment purposes – a quick, precise, ‘low stakes’ end point measure. The ELGs are on pages 12 to 16 of the EYFS Statutory framework.
The ELGs should not be used as a curriculum but used as an assessment of child development during the summer term of the reception year.
Exemplification Materials
The DfE has published exemplification materials to provide support for schools when completing the Early Years Foundation Stage Profile (EYFSP) assessment for children at the end of reception year. These are a collection of case study videos that demonstrate teachers and leaders having professional discussions about individual children’s development and their EYFSP judgements.
