Qualifications/Experience:
Full and relevant Level 3 Qualification in Early Years
Paediatric First Aid
To have been a room leader for a minimum of one year.
To have been a room leader for a minimum of one year.
To have a minimum of three years experience of caring for babies/ young children, ensuring
good, appropriate behaviour and offering high quality provision, care and delivering high standards of learning and development .
To have experience of effective delivery of the EYFS.
To have experience of the Ofsted inspection process.
To have experience of working with and/ or leading other adults in a team.
To have experience of developing staff/ giving training/ running staff supervision.
To have experience of developing good working parental relationships.
To have experience of implementing core policies, such as Safeguarding, Equality and Health
and Safety.
To have implemented key policies across different settings and contexts.
To have experience of observing and assessing children and planning for their needs
Responsibilities/Extra Information:
To lead a team of staff, including trainees and students, to ensure a safe, happy, stimulating
environment is provided for all children.
To ensure the smooth running of the daily practices, ensuring practices and policies are
followed, including ensuring paperwork is completed to a good standard.
To ensure good observation and assessment of, and planning for, all children in the room.
To ensure all children receive high quality care and their development is suitably promoted.
To act as a role model, demonstrating excellent practice.
To supervise Nursery Practitioners, Assistants and Trainees, carrying out supervisory
meetings where appropriate under the guidance of the Nursery Manager and Deputy
Nursery Manager.
To continuously promote your team’s effectiveness, motivation and standards of care,
offering ongoing positive support, advice and guidance.
To act as a child’s Key Person where requested by the Manager, ensuring quality one to one
time each day with your key children and again demonstrating excellent practise to your
room staff.
To plan enjoyable and stimulating activities in the room on a weekly and monthly basis
which promote the children’s learning and development requirements, guided by the
ongoing observation and assessment process.
To work in partnership with, and supporting, the Proprietor, Nursery Manager and Deputy
Nursery Manager to ensure the smooth daily running and administration of the nursery,
adhering to the Policies & Procedures of Ollie Owl Day Nursery Ltd and compliance with the
Children Act, Health and Safety legislation and within the guidelines of Ofsted and the
National Standards.
To ensure confidentiality is maintained in the nursery.
To act as a Named Coordinator relevant to their skills or training as designated by the
Nursery Manager.
To liaise with the Nursery Management in organising relevant staff, effective mentoring of
junior staff, effective delegation and communication and promoting positive attitudes
regarding Ollie Owl Day Nursery.
To attend regular management meetings. To participate in staff meetings, sharing best
practice and training advice when requested.
To attend and participate in training days, including up to two per year on a Saturday.
To assist with staff room inductions, helping new staff to fit into the nursery.
To ensure all preparation, care, cleanliness and maintenance of the playrooms and
equipment, including laundry duties.
To provide feedback to the Proprietor and Nursery Manager on issues relating to the
nursery.
To ensure all Safeguarding & Welfare practices and requirements are met and implemented
by all room staff.
To ensure that only designated staff administer medication as recorded in the risk
assessments and as displayed in the Policies and Procedures file.
To assist in ensuring all accidents, incidents and risk assessment forms are kept and
monitored.
To fulfil all health and safety responsibilities, including acting as a ‘fire marshal’ during fire
evacuation procedures.
To promote equal opportunities for all children and staff, with regard to their religious
persuasion, racial origins, gender, disabilities, cultural or linguistic background; in particular,
challenging situations where racism or discrimination if displayed. Any incidents should be
reported to the manager.
To assist the Proprietor and Nursery Manager, participating in arranging regular parent’s
evenings, nursery events, open weekends and children's outings.
To undertake any other duties appropriate to the post as directed by the Nursery Manager
and Deputy Nursery Manager.
